I
moved to the Northwest from Texas with my husband and children in
2002. I was born in Venezuela and lived in South America and Europe before
immigrating to the United States. My mother’s roots are Spanish
and my father’s family came from England to settle in one of the
British colonies -Barbados. The influence of this mixed cultural background is integral to my
art. With a formal
education in Fine Art and through many years of dedication to
Graphic Design, my work combines bold layouts and colors that
express how much I care about what I am painting.
Most of my
favorite themes come from the natural world and the many experiences
that have made a deep impact in my life. I work mainly from photos,
many of which I take myself and try to incorporate how I feel about
the subject matter as the image builds on the canvas. Color plays a
key role, evolving sometimes into the main protagonist of the
composition. My newer work has traces of abstract elements with
color as its focus. There is so much more to discover and explore!
The large
canvases are mostly done in acrylic, occasionally overlaid with oil
pastel. There are times I include exciting textures from
papers and fabrics. In my smaller drawings I use watercolor and
color pencils. The vibrant hues reflect my personality and
background and my hope is that you can share a little in my creative
adventures!
